Dear Friends,

I hope this note finds you well, staying healthy and safe during these difficult times. I know many of our friends and neighbors have been personally affected by COVID-19 – whether it’s new financial realities, home-schooling children, or health-related issues. Life has become much more challenging and you are all in my thoughts.

It seems like a long time ago now with all we have endured but during the Fairfield Republican Town Committee meeting back in March, I announced that I would run for the 133rd General Assembly district and was unanimously endorsed by the Fairfield RTC.

So much has happened since then but my commitment to you, our state, town and community has never been stronger. While I know there are many challenges ahead of us in both the near and long-term, I am eager when the time is right to discuss my ideas and what I can bring to Hartford during very tumultuous times.

For those of you who don’t know me, I have a strong record of public service. I was a long-time member of the Norwalk Common Council and served on numerous boards and commissions over a 25 year span and I currently serve on the Fairfield Affordable Housing Committee of Fairfield.

My father was a police officer in Westport and I learned early on the value of community service and hard work.  During my tenure on the Norwalk Common Council, I have sought to create effective change and bring common-sense values to leadership whether it came to new policies or budgets.  As a mother and grandmother, I want to help foster change and make Connecticut a place that works for everyone.

Please feel free to contact me with your questions, concerns and insights.

All the best,
Joanne

School Resource Officers - Informational Piece

School Resource Officers, or SROs, are members of the law enforcement community who teach, counsel, and protect the school community. When SROs are integrated into a school system, the benefits go beyond reduced violence in schools.  They are vital to keeping a safe school environment.

With Connecticut’s deficit increasing and high unemployment, state employee raises take effect Wednesday despite Lamont’s request for deferral

Isn’t this great? People unemployed, still trying to get unemployment, haven’t received stimulus, small business’ struggling to keep their doors open and then we see this!!
When was the last time you got a raise? Or even a paycheck for that matter?

By carrot of stick: Senate Dems take aim at local zoning restrictions on affordable housing.

Affordable Housing is at the forefront on many minds. And that is why we need to assure that it is developed properly and without prejudice. We need to assure tha builders don’t pass under the radar when it comes to requirements and we must assure that we also take in account the quality of life of homeowners. We need to assure that structures aren’t oversized, too much density and encroaching on homeowners properties.

With this proposal, the municipalities lose all rights on local zoning - we can't let this happen!

As nursing home residents died, new covid-19 protections shielded companies from lawsuits. Families say that hides the truth.

This really bothers me. I know first hand how many of these nursing homes handled Covid-19  residents and I don’t think this is fair!
